Fatal Tucson I-19 crash death of Mariana Ruiz – Obituary

Mariana Ruiz, 35, was killed Saturday in a three-vehicle collision on the southbound I-19 off-ramp at West Valencia Road in Tucson. Police said the crash involved a white 2014 Honda Civic, a gold 2002 Toyota Camry, and a white 2021 Freightliner tractor-trailer.

According to authorities, Ruiz was a passenger in the Honda Civic, which was traveling at a high speed when it exited onto Valencia Road. The vehicle first sideswiped the Camry before striking the rear of the stopped tractor-trailer, where Ruiz died at the scene. The Civic’s driver, a 40-year-old man, was hospitalized with injuries, while the drivers of the other vehicles were unharmed.

Investigators from the Tucson Police Department’s Traffic Collision Investigation Unit said the Civic driver’s speed and inability to control the car were key factors in the crash. No charges or citations have been issued as the investigation continues.
