Ricardo Delafuente, 58, of Waukegan, Illinois, was shot and killed during a police response at a residence over the weekend, authorities confirmed. Officers were called to a home on the 100 block of Leith Avenue just before 3 p.m. Saturday for reports of a man attempting to take his own life.

Police have not released details about what occurred during the encounter between Delafuente and responding officers. Paramedics who were staged nearby examined him at the scene, where he was pronounced dead.

The Lake County Coroner’s Office completed an autopsy Monday and determined that Delafuente died from multiple gunshot wounds. Additional information about the nature of his injuries has not been disclosed.

The shooting remains under investigation. The Illinois State Police Public Integrity Unit has taken over the case as authorities continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident.
