Fatal Bibb County shooting death of Ayana Smith – Obituary

Ayana Smith, 28, was killed Tuesday night in a shooting outside a residence on Fulton Street in Macon. Deputies from the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office responded just before 8:30 p.m. after a 911 call reported a person down.

Officers found Smith and her 2-year-old daughter with gunshot wounds. Both were taken to a hospital, where Smith was pronounced dead. Her daughter was reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities arrested 34-year-old Marquiz Deonte Brooks in connection with the shooting. He faces charges of murder and aggravated assault and is being held without bond at the Bibb County Law Enforcement Center. The relationship between Smith and Brooks has not been disclosed, and the investigation remains ongoing.
