Fatal Killeen, Texas shooting death of Brandon Richards – Obituary

Killeen police have identified Brandon Richards, 22, as the man who died following a shooting Monday night at an apartment complex on the city’s south side. Authorities said Richards was critically wounded and later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.

Officers were called to the 2700 block of Cunningham Road around 7:42 p.m. after receiving a report of a gunshot victim. When police arrived, they found Richards on the front porch of an apartment with an apparent gunshot wound.

Emergency responders transported Richards to Carl R. Darnall Medical Center in critical condition. He was pronounced dead at 8:26 p.m. by Justice of the Peace Gregory Johnson.

Investigators said a preliminary review indicates the person who called 9-1-1 reported that Richards had been shot and that the suspect fled the area before officers arrived. No suspect description or additional details have been released.

The Killeen Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division, Robbery-Homicide Unit, is handling the case. Police said the investigation remains active and that further information was not available as of Tuesday.
