Fatal Burleigh County, North Dakota car crash deaths of Doreen Hexom and Portia Matthiesen – Obituary

The North Dakota Highway Patrol has confirmed the identities of two women who died in a head-on collision on Sunday, February 8. Doreen Hexom, 80, of Williston, and Portia Matthiesen, 21, of Bismarck, were both pronounced dead at a Bismarck hospital following the crash.

According to officials, Hexom was driving a 2021 GMC Acadia southbound in the northbound lanes of Highway 83, approximately six miles south of Wilton, at 10:26 a.m. The Acadia collided head-on with a 2016 Nissan Maxima driven by Matthiesen. Foggy conditions were reported at the time of the crash.

Investigators noted that Hexom was wearing a seat belt, while Matthiesen was not. Both women were transported to Sanford Medical Center in Bismarck, where they later died from their injuries.

Wilton is located about 26 miles north of Bismarck in Burleigh County. The crash remains under investigation.
