Fatal Pitt County crash death of Joseph Worthington III – Obituary

Joseph Worthington III, 51, of Ayden, was discovered dead Monday inside a wrecked pickup truck on family property near Hanrahan Road, the Pitt County Sheriff’s Office reported. Worthington had been reported missing the day before and was last seen on Saturday.

Authorities said the truck had become lodged in a culvert, hidden from view from the road. Deputies, along with detectives from the Major Crimes and Forensic Services Units, responded to the scene. Worthington’s body was turned over to the medical examiner, and officials are continuing to investigate the cause of death.
