Authorities in Champaign County have identified the elderly woman who was killed in a single-vehicle accident Monday afternoon. The Champaign County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the victim as 82-year-old Karen L. Parr of Newman, Illinois.

Officials reported that the crash occurred around 12:15 p.m. on 2500 E, just north of 700 N, when Parr’s vehicle was traveling north and veered off the roadway, striking a tree. The vehicle subsequently caught fire.

A nearby person, who was not a witness to the crash, attempted to assist Parr by pulling her from the smoking vehicle and performing CPR. Despite these efforts, she was pronounced dead at the scene at 1:08 p.m. No other individuals were found in or around the car.

The Champaign County Coroner’s Office stated that Parr died from injuries sustained in the crash, and an autopsy has been scheduled. The investigation into the circumstances of the accident is ongoing.
