Maria de Consuelo Alarcon, 76, was killed in a house fire early Wednesday at a residence on N Vista Del Mar Avenue in Hollywood, just north of the Walk of Fame. Authorities have confirmed the blaze was intentionally set, linking it to a series of nearby trash fires.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded around 2:55 a.m. and quickly contained the flames, but discovered Alarcon deceased inside the home. Another woman, whose identity has not yet been released, was rushed to a hospital in critical condition and later succumbed to her injuries.

The Los Angeles Police Department has classified the fire as arson, though no suspects have been publicly identified. Investigators continue to examine the connection between this incident and at least eight other fires in the surrounding area.
