Police in Halton Region have confirmed the identity of a man who died following a shooting at a Burlington shopping mall late Monday night. Omer Niaz Muhammad, 24, of Burlington, was shot in the parking lot of the Burlington Centre mall and later succumbed to his injuries.

Halton Regional Police said officers were called to the mall just after 10 p.m. Eastern Time after reports of gunfire. Emergency crews arrived and provided medical assistance before transporting Muhammad to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Investigators stated that Muhammad suffered gunshot wounds to his upper body. Authorities are currently searching for two suspects who reportedly fled the scene in a white sport utility vehicle.

Police have not determined whether the victim and the suspects knew each other. Officials noted that this incident is the first homicide recorded in Burlington this year. The investigation remains ongoing, and no additional details have been released.
