Fatal Hamilton discovery death of William Lee Campbell – Obituary

William Lee Campbell, 46, of Hamilton, Ohio, has been identified as the individual whose remains were found last August in a Butler County sewer system. Campbell had been reported missing in 2022, and authorities confirmed his identity following a multi-year investigation involving the Hamilton Police Department, the Butler County Coroner’s Office, and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI).

Campbell was last seen on Nov. 14, 2022, on the west side of Hamilton. On Aug. 27, 2025, during routine sewer maintenance near 3rd Street and Market Street, a contractor discovered human bones, including a skull, which were later sent to BCI for DNA testing. The DNA matched Campbell’s profile through the Combined DNA Index System (CODIS), with familial DNA from 2022 providing secondary confirmation.
