Fatal Lake Charles car crash death of Zenna Fontenot Dewitt – Obituary

Zenna Fontenot Dewitt, 83, of Lake Charles, Louisiana, was killed Wednesday afternoon after being struck by a vehicle in a parking lot outside a Dollar General store on Country Club Road. The fatal incident happened on February 4, 2026, and is under investigation by the Lake Charles Police Department Traffic Division.

Police said officers were dispatched to the Dollar General at 2319 Country Club Road at approximately 2:41 p.m. after receiving reports of a pedestrian being hit in the parking lot. When officers arrived, they found that Dewitt had suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 2017 Chevrolet Trailblazer driven by 61-year-old Cheryl Ann Bonette of Lake Charles left the roadway, traveled through the parking area, and struck Dewitt as she was walking toward her vehicle.

Authorities have not released information explaining why the vehicle left the roadway. The crash remains an active investigation as traffic investigators continue working to determine contributing factors.
