Fatal Callahan County, Texas car crash death of Kaley Demasters – Obituary

A tragic highway collision southeast of Abilene claimed the lives of an Abilene woman and a young child Wednesday night, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety. Authorities confirmed that Kaley Demasters, 36, was killed in the two-vehicle crash that occurred on State Highway 36 in Callahan County.

Investigators said Demasters was driving a 2019 Nissan Altima southbound on FM Road 603 with an 11-year-old girl as her passenger. As the vehicle approached the intersection with Highway 36, it failed to stop at the posted stop sign and entered the highway.

At the same time, a 2015 Freightliner truck tractor pulling a Utility semi-trailer was traveling westbound on Highway 36. The truck, driven by 43-year-old Santiago Reina Castaneda of Pasadena, struck the Nissan at approximately 7:16 p.m. Officials noted that the speed limit in the area is 75 mph and that weather and road conditions were clear and dry.

Demasters was pronounced dead at the scene by Callahan County Justice of the Peace Andy Holland. The child passenger was rushed to Hendrick Medical Center with critical injuries but died while being transported. Due to DPS policy, the juvenile victim’s name was not released.

Castaneda sustained minor injuries and was taken to Hendrick Medical Center for treatment. The crash remains under investigation by state authorities.
