The Ada County Coroner has confirmed that Matthew Cox, an 18-year-old man, lost his life in a serious traffic accident that occurred early Thursday morning in Meridian.

According to investigators, emergency crews were sent to the area near South Meridian Road and East Columbia Road around 3:23 a.m. after reports of a vehicle crash. Authorities determined that Cox was driving alone in a 2001 black Jaguar S-Type, traveling northbound, when the vehicle veered off the roadway.

Police said the car rolled before colliding with a power pole. Cox was the sole occupant of the vehicle and suffered severe injuries in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by responding officials.

Detectives indicated that excessive speed is believed to have played a role in the incident. The official cause and manner of death will be finalized once the full investigation is complete.
