Fatal Emporia shooting death of Angel Lucas – Obituary
Angel Lucas was killed on the afternoon of February 12 after she was shot inside her residence in Emporia. Officers responded to reports of gunfire shortly after 4 p.m. in the 500 block of Southampton Street, where they found Lucas suffering from a gunshot wound. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Emporia Police Department, her son, Shawn Wyche, was arrested in connection with the killing. Authorities charged him with first-degree murder, along with firearm-related offenses, including using a weapon during a felony and reckless handling of a firearm.
Wyche was taken into custody and is currently being held without bond at Southside Regional Jail while the case proceeds.
Investigators carried out a search of the home as part of the ongoing inquiry. Assistance has also been provided by Virginia State Police, working alongside local officials to fully examine the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Police expressed sympathy to Lucas’s family and loved ones, acknowledging the deep loss and emphasizing their commitment to conducting a thorough and respectful investigation.
