Fatal Chicago shooting death of Damon Kellum – Obituary
Authorities said a 45-year-old man was discovered fatally shot on the South Side of Chicago earlier this week, near a vehicle believed to have been involved in a separate violent carjacking.
The victim, Damon Kellum, was found around 5 a.m. Wednesday in the Oakland neighborhood. Police said he had suffered a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Investigators located a nearby vehicle that matched the description of one stolen during a deadly carjacking reported hours earlier on the city’s North Side.
In that earlier incident, which happened at approximately 3:45 a.m. near West Waveland Avenue and North Halsted Street, a 22-year-old man was sitting inside his car with a 38-year-old companion when two suspects approached. Police said the attackers shot the 22-year-old before stealing his vehicle and fleeing. The older passenger was unharmed.
Officials have not yet released the identity of the younger victim from the carjacking and have not confirmed whether the two fatal shootings are directly related. The investigation remains ongoing.
