The Ada County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the teenager who lost his life in a single-vehicle accident early Thursday. The victim was Matthew Cox, 18, a resident of Kuna. Officials stated that the exact cause and manner of his death have not yet been determined.

According to the Meridian Police Department, Cox had been driving a 2001 Jaguar north on South Meridian Road near East Columbia Road when he lost control. The vehicle veered off the road, overturned, and eventually collided with a utility pole.

Authorities are asking anyone who may have seen the crash in Meridian to come forward with information as the investigation continues.

This tragedy is one of several recent serious crashes involving young drivers in the region. In Payette County, another motorist was badly hurt after also losing control and hitting a power pole. Meanwhile, in Canyon County, a separate incident claimed the life of a 19-year-old who failed to stop at an intersection, according to the Idaho State Police.
