Fatal McComb shooting death of Ke’Jaylen Cook – Obituary

Ke’Jaylen Cook, a 14-year-old student in McComb, Mississippi, was tragically killed over the weekend after being shot on South Chestnut Street near Avenue B. Officers responded to the scene around 1:42 p.m. Sunday and found Cook lying in the street with gunshot wounds.

The teen was transported to Southwest Mississippi Regional Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. Police have not yet identified any suspects in connection with the shooting, which marks the first homicide in McComb for 2026.

McComb Police Chief Earnest Perry urged the community to unite for the safety of all children, while the McComb School District extended condolences to Cook’s family and the broader school community. The city mourns the loss of a young life taken far too soon as investigations continue.
