Fatal Plaza Midwood crash death of Sophie Klippel – Obituary

Sophie Klippel, 23, of Charlotte, tragically died after a collision in Plaza Midwood on March 12 when a Honda Odyssey, driven by 47-year-old Thomas Deon Haynes, ran a stop sign at Hamorton Place and struck her vehicle. The impact ejected Klippel from the car, and she was pronounced dead at the scene. Two other occupants—a 21-year-old driver and a 62-year-old passenger—were hospitalized with injuries.

Authorities say evidence inside the Honda and eyewitness testimony confirmed Haynes as the driver. He has been charged with second-degree murder and felony hit-and-run and is currently held without bond at Mecklenburg County Jail while the investigation continues.
