Eddie Garcia, 62, of Alpaugh, was shot and killed Thursday evening at Alpaugh County Park, authorities confirmed. The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded around 7:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a shooting and found Garcia with fatal gunshot injuries at the scene.

Witnesses described the attack as sudden and brazen, occurring in front of families and children. Diane Munoz, who lives across from the park, recounted hearing a loud gunshot and seeing someone in a black car shoot Garcia before fleeing toward Corcoran. Residents expressed shock and fear, emphasizing how close children were to the incident and describing the park as eerily quiet the following day.

Community members, including parents of children present, reported distress and prayed for safety, while law enforcement continues the investigation. The Tulare County Sheriff’s Office stated that no arrests have been made, and authorities are actively seeking leads on the suspect involved.
