Fatal Columbus, Ohio car crash death of John Lewis – Obituary

Authorities have identified 50-year-old John Lewis of Grove City as the driver who died following a crash on Columbus’ Northeast Side on March 26.

The incident occurred around 6:35 a.m. on State Route 161, just east of Interstate 270. Lewis was driving his 2024 Ford Maverick eastbound near Sunbury Road when his vehicle veered off the south side of the roadway and collided with a guardrail. The impact caused a section of the guardrail to penetrate the truck through the driver’s side window and exit through the roof.

Lewis was transported in critical condition by Columbus Division of Fire medics to Mount Carmel East Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:49 a.m.

State Route 161 East remained closed for several hours as the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office investigated the scene. Authorities have not released information on the vehicle’s speed or whether impairment played a role in the crash.
