A 28-year-old woman, Katelyn Hall, died after being shot by Louisville Metro Police officers during a mental health crisis on Friday, March 27.

Police responded around 7:45 p.m. to the 9800 block of Vieux Carre Drive after reports of a woman experiencing a mental health emergency. Officers found Hall had inflicted cuts on herself and was armed with a sharp object, described as a piece of glass.

Despite attempts at de-escalation, Hall locked herself in a bathroom and made agitated statements. Responders from Anchorage Middletown Fire breached the door, at which point Hall exited and charged at the officers. Two officers, Robert Baker and Robert Gabbard, discharged their firearms, striking her.

Hall was transported to a hospital, where she was pronounced dead. Both officers involved have been placed on administrative leave in accordance with department policy, and the incident remains under investigation.
