Leon Edgington Morales, a 3-month-old from Perris, died Sunday night in a single-vehicle rollover on the northbound 215 Freeway near Eucalyptus Avenue in Riverside.

The California Highway Patrol reported the crash occurred just before 7:40 p.m. Paramedics from the Riverside City Fire Department transported Morales and four other passengers, including another infant, to local hospitals. Morales was pronounced dead at the trauma center.

Firefighters used hydraulic tools to extricate one adult from the severely damaged vehicle, while Riverside County Animal Control took custody of a dog found inside. A SigAlert closed all northbound lanes from 8:06 p.m., initially expected to last two hours but extended until at least midnight. CHP continues to investigate the cause of the crash.
