Fatal San Clemente crash death of Maria Ramirezahmad – Obituary
Authorities have identified 53-year-old Maria Ramirezahmad of Anaheim as the woman who lost her life following a high-speed pursuit that ended in a deadly crash in San Clemente.
The incident unfolded just before 8 a.m. when deputies attempted to stop a stolen U-Haul truck along Avenida Granada. The driver, later identified as Matthew Alexander Ronquillo, allegedly refused to pull over and sped away, prompting a pursuit.
Investigators say the fleeing vehicle crashed into an SUV at the intersection of Avenida Granada and Ola Vista, less than half a mile from where the chase began. Ramirezahmad, who was driving the SUV, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Three adult female passengers traveling in the SUV were critically injured and transported to the hospital for treatment.
Officials reported that a passenger in the U-Haul, identified as Gregorio Horacio Trejochavez, remained at the crash site and was taken to a hospital before later being booked for a probation violation.
Ronquillo reportedly fled on foot after the collision but was soon located by a sheriff’s helicopter as he attempted to cross the 5 Freeway. Deputies established a perimeter, and a K9 unit was used to apprehend him.
Following his arrest, Ronquillo was taken to a hospital for treatment before being booked into the Orange County Jail. He faces multiple charges, including felony evasion causing death or serious injury, hit-and-run, gross vehicular manslaughter, and possession of a stolen vehicle.
The crash remains under investigation, and authorities are asking anyone with information to come forward.
