A tree removal job in Vestavia Hills ended in tragedy when a worker lost his life while on duty.
Authorities identified the victim as 36-year-old Aaron Ligon McGarity from Bessemer, who had been working for a tree service company contracted to remove a tree at a residence on Westwyck Circle.
The incident occurred around 11:30 a.m. on March 31 in the 2800 block of Westwyck Circle. During the tree removal process, McGarity sustained serious injuries.
Emergency responders arrived quickly, but he was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 11:48 a.m., less than 20 minutes after the incident.
Officials have not yet released specific details about how the accident happened. Vestavia Hills police are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the fatal workplace incident.
