Authorities have identified the man killed during a police standoff in south Anchorage as 43-year-old Micah Bonin.

The incident unfolded early Saturday morning at a residence on Shore Circle, where officers responded shortly before 3:30 a.m. after reports of gunfire. Police said Bonin was armed with a high-powered rifle, attempted to shoot down a police drone, and set the home on fire.

Officer Jacob Jones, a member of the Anchorage Police Department since December 2016, fired three to four rounds during the confrontation. Bonin was later found down inside the residence and pronounced dead. Police have confirmed that his next of kin have been notified.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the standoff and the fire, which posed an ongoing public safety threat at the scene.
