Fatal Santa Monica shooting death of Yair Segundo Cruz – Obituary
Yair Segundo Cruz, 22, was killed Saturday night near the Santa Monica Police Department following an altercation between occupants of two vehicles, authorities reported. The incident occurred around 10:30 p.m. near Fourth Street and Olympic Drive, close to the transition of the Pacific Coast Highway to the Santa Monica (10) Freeway.
Preliminary reports indicate that during the confrontation, a suspect fired a gun, striking Cruz. Emergency responders attempted to provide aid before he was transported to a hospital, where he later died. The suspect fled the scene prior to police arrival.
The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner officially identified Cruz on Wednesday. Investigators have not released further details about the altercation or the identities of others involved.
Authorities are asking anyone with information about the shooting to contact the Santa Monica Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. The investigation remains ongoing.
