Fatal Sunland 210 Freeway multi-vehicle crash death of Wern Saetern – Obituary

A tragic freeway collision in Sunland claimed the lives of two young adults after a big-rig struck a parked vehicle late Friday night.

Wern Saetern, 25, was inside a Honda Accord along with 23-year-old Alejandra Simental when the incident occurred on the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway, just east of Sunland Boulevard.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened around 9:52 p.m. when a Freightliner truck driven by Hardev Singh collided with the stationary car on the shoulder. The impact left both victims trapped inside the vehicle.

Emergency responders pronounced Saetern and Simental dead at the scene. Authorities have not released information regarding their hometowns.

Investigators said the truck driver remained at the site and cooperated fully with law enforcement officials. At this time, it is still unclear what led to the crash, and officials have not determined whether alcohol or drugs played a role.

The collision prompted a Sigalert, shutting down multiple eastbound lanes for several hours before reopening early Saturday morning.

Anyone with details about the crash is encouraged to contact the California Highway Patrol as the investigation continues.
