Fatal Monterey County, California crash death of Edgar Jeremiah Banuelos-Gonzalez – Obituary

Edgar Jeremiah Banuelos-Gonzalez, 16, of Watsonville, tragically lost his life in a single-vehicle accident on Meridian Road near Revilla Drive Friday night.

According to the Monterey County Sheriff’s Office, a 37-year-old Castroville man was driving a Volkswagen sedan at high speed when it veered off the road and struck a tree. Banuelos-Gonzalez was one of three juvenile passengers in the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver suffered major injuries and was hospitalized, while the two younger passengers, ages 14 and 7, were taken to a San Jose hospital with moderate injuries.

Authorities arrested the adult driver on suspicion of driving under the influence, manslaughter, and child endangerment, citing alcohol and excessive speed as factors. The North Monterey County Unified School District expressed deep sorrow over the loss and announced additional mental health support for students and families affected by the tragedy.
