Fatal Wilkes County pedestrian crash death of Douglas Edward Williams – Obituary
Douglas Edward Williams, 74, of North Wilkesboro, tragically died after being struck by a vehicle on April 4 along S Windy Gap Road near Jarvis Store Road in Wilkes County. He was transported to Wilkes Medical Center but succumbed to his injuries at the hospital.
The driver, 68-year-old David Eugene Mesimer of Union Grove, was not injured and is cooperating with authorities. Preliminary findings indicate that neither speed nor impairment contributed to the crash.
Officials closed the road for about an hour while emergency crews attended to the scene. The district attorney’s office is reviewing the case, and no charges are expected. Investigators continue to examine the circumstances surrounding the collision.
