Fatal Tucson jaywalking crash death of Joe Frank Trujillo – Obituary

Joe Frank Trujillo, 36, lost his life after being struck by a vehicle while crossing Alvernon Way outside a marked crosswalk in Tucson, Arizona. The collision took place around 3 p.m. on April 6 near the intersection with 29th Street. Emergency responders transported Trujillo to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

According to the Tucson Police Department, Trujillo attempted to cross the southbound lanes of traffic when a southbound Dodge Grand Caravan in the curb lane struck him. The driver was not impaired and remained on scene, fully cooperating with investigators. Officers noted that a marked crosswalk existed approximately 90 feet south of the impact location, and Trujillo’s failure to use it was the primary contributing factor in the fatal crash.

The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue to gather evidence and review medical records to determine if any substances were in Trujillo’s system at the time of the collision. Police have emphasized the importance of using designated pedestrian crossings to prevent similar incidents.
