Authorities in Sedgwick County are investigating a deadly collision involving a pedestrian and a vehicle that took place on Wednesday afternoon in the southern part of the county.
Around 4 p.m., emergency crews including deputies, Mulvane EMS, and Fire District 1 were dispatched to the 11800 block of South Meridian after reports that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle, according to sheriff’s spokesperson Branden Stitt.
Responders attempted life-saving measures at the scene, but the teenage pedestrian was pronounced dead where the incident occurred. He was later identified as 15-year-old Connor Dane Chavez-Garcia, who lived in the area.
Investigators from the sheriff’s office and the Major Crash Team are continuing to look into the circumstances surrounding the incident. Early findings suggest the teen may have been crossing the roadway near his residence when he was struck by a Ford F-350 pickup towing a small agricultural trailer.
Officials have stated that, based on initial evidence, neither excessive speed nor alcohol impairment is suspected to have played a role in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to determine the full sequence of events.
