Authorities reported that Gene Rehn Sr., 78, from York County, lost his life following a collision along Route 177 earlier in the week.
Officials with the Dauphin County coroner’s office confirmed his identity after the incident.
According to Fairview Township police, the crash took place on Tuesday afternoon when one vehicle struck the rear of another before veering toward the roadside area.
Investigators said Rehn was standing on the shoulder at the time he was hit after the initial impact.
Emergency crews transported him to Penn State Hershey Medical Center, where medical staff later pronounced him dead.
The circumstances surrounding the collision remain under investigation by local authorities.
