Authorities in St. Mary’s County have confirmed the death of a 40-year-old man following a multi-vehicle pedestrian collision in California, Maryland during the early morning hours of April 10, 2026. Jesse San Nicolas was pronounced dead at the scene after being struck while attempting to cross a major roadway.
Deputies responded shortly after 2:26 a.m. to the southbound lanes of the 22700 block of Three Notch Road after multiple 911 calls reported a pedestrian down in the roadway. Emergency personnel arrived to find the victim unresponsive in the travel lanes, with bystanders indicating he had been hit by passing traffic.
Investigators determined that San Nicolas was crossing southbound lanes when he was struck by more than one vehicle. One of the vehicles involved, a BMW sedan driven by a 21-year-old man from Waldorf, remained at the scene and is cooperating with authorities.
A second vehicle involved in the collision fled after impact and has not yet been located. Officials believe it may be a dark-colored Dodge Caravan with front-end damage. The investigation remains ongoing as collision reconstruction teams continue to gather evidence and seek witnesses.
