Fatal Oklahoma City, Oklahoma car crash death of Vernon Brake – Obituary

Vernon Brake, a longtime Oklahoma Highway Patrol trooper, was among three people who lost their lives in a tragic crash on Interstate 35 in Oklahoma City. The collision occurred late Wednesday morning between Britton Road and Hefner Road.

Authorities reported that debris or equipment had fallen onto the roadway, prompting a southbound driver to swerve in an attempt to avoid it. The vehicle crossed a cable barrier into oncoming traffic, striking Trooper Brake, who was traveling northbound at the time.

Brake, who had nearly two decades of service with the Oklahoma Highway Patrol, died in the crash. Also killed were 36-year-old Mercedes Bayne and her 5-year-old daughter, Ariana, who were in the vehicle that crossed the median.

Investigators later identified a truck that may have been connected to the debris on the road. Officials stated that the driver of the truck has since come forward and is cooperating with authorities as the investigation continues.

Law enforcement agencies across Oklahoma have expressed their condolences, recognizing Brake’s dedication and service while offering support to all the families affected by the devastating incident.
