A 29-year-old man, Jacob Graves, has died following a police-involved shooting on Hemenway Street in Boston after an altercation that also left multiple officers injured.

Authorities said officers were responding to a mental health-related emergency call when Graves allegedly became violent and attacked responding personnel with a bladed weapon. Officials described the object as “sword-like.” The confrontation escalated, and officers used both a Taser and gunfire during the incident.

Graves was transported for medical treatment but later died from his injuries.

Police Commissioner Michael Cox stated that officers had initially been dispatched due to a distress call placed by Graves himself. During the encounter, he reportedly assaulted officers and emergency medical staff, prompting the use of force.

Investigators also noted that Graves was a former student at Berklee College of Music, though he did not complete his studies there.

The incident occurred amid a series of recent violent events in the area, including stabbings and reports of gunfire near nearby campuses, which have heightened concern among students and residents.

Authorities have not released further details as the investigation remains ongoing.
