Fatal Greensboro, North Carolina crash death of Jefferson Lumby Zeledon – Obituary

A 29-year-old Greensboro man lost his life following a violent late-night collision that unfolded after a series of dangerous driving events in the city’s downtown area.

Authorities say the driver was involved in an earlier hit-and-run incident before continuing at high speed along South Benbow Road. While approaching a T-shaped intersection near Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, the vehicle left the roadway and slammed into a parked Chevrolet Cobalt.

The impact caused the car to overturn and come to rest off the road in a wooded area nearby. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but the driver was pronounced dead at the scene due to the severity of the crash.

Two passengers who were also inside the vehicle suffered significant injuries and were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment.

Investigators with local law enforcement believe speed and possible impairment played a role in the sequence of events leading up to the crash. The department’s crash reconstruction team continues to examine how the incident developed, including the earlier reported hit-and-run in downtown Greensboro.
