Aaliyah Draine dies in fatal Missouri Valley car crash

Fatal Missouri Valley car crash death of Aaliyah Draine – Obituary

Aaliyah Draine, a 22-year-old woman from Omaha, was killed in a tragic collision on Interstate 29 near Missouri Valley, Iowa, early Saturday morning, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

The incident happened around 2:50 a.m. at mile marker 79 when a 2009 Chevrolet Cobalt, heading northbound in the southbound lanes of I-29, crashed into a 2013 Dodge Durango traveling south. Draine, a passenger in the Cobalt, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Authorities reported that the Cobalt’s driver, 30-year-old Malka Bingham, also from Omaha, sustained critical injuries. The Durango’s driver had injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Shortly after the initial crash, another southbound vehicle encountered the debris, lost control while trying to avoid the wreck, veered into a ditch, and overturned. Fortunately, the driver in that vehicle was unharmed.

Investigators noted that neither Draine nor Bingham was wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision. The circumstances surrounding why the Cobalt was traveling the wrong way remain under investigation.
