Fatal Oshtemo Township shooting death of Dequevion Brown – Obituary

Dequevion Brown, a 29-year-old resident of Kalamazoo, was shot and killed on the afternoon of May 27, 2025, at the Canterbury House Apartments in Oshtemo Township, west of Kalamazoo. The Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office identified Brown and confirmed that his death is being investigated as a homicide.

 

Deputies responded to reports of a gunshot at the apartment complex on Drake Road. Upon arrival, they found Brown injured and administered first aid before rushing him to a nearby hospital, where he later died. Witnesses at the scene described a person fleeing around the time of the shooting. Deputies located and questioned a suspect matching that description, but after investigation, the individual was cleared and released.

 

Authorities continue to seek any information from the public regarding the incident and urge anyone with details to contact the Kalamazoo County Sheriff’s Office or submit tips anonymously through Silent Observer. The sheriff’s office offered heartfelt condolences to Brown’s family and noted the profound impact of this tragic loss on the community.

I live near where this happened. I’m so sorry this young man’s family and this apartment community had to endure this. I sometimes walk my dog in this complex. Today I dropped off a jar with some flowers and water at the site where it happened. I was a little surprised and disappointed to see nobody else had put any other memorials there. I hope others will put more memorials there in his memory.
