Richard Dowding dies in fatal Porter County crash

Fatal Porter County crash death of Richard Dowding – Obituary

Richard Dowding, 73, of Portage, Indiana, was one of two motorcyclists tragically killed in a multi-vehicle accident on U.S. Highway 6 in Porter County Friday afternoon, according to local authorities.

The collision occurred when a 2023 Audi Q7P, traveling eastbound near White Thorne Lane, began slowing down with its left turn signal activated. The Audi was struck from behind by a 2017 Nissan Rogue, which pushed it into the oncoming traffic lane.

As a result, the Audi collided head-on with two motorcycles, one of which was being operated by Dowding. Emergency responders arrived around 1:47 p.m. and found both motorcyclists unresponsive. Despite lifesaving efforts, Dowding was pronounced dead at the scene.

The crash remains under active investigation by the Porter County Sheriff’s Department.
