Fatal Kaufman County car crash death of Zabar McKellar
A multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 20 in Kaufman County has resulted in five fatalities. Among those killed was a Fort Worth family, including the individual named Zabar McKellar and his family members. The Texas Department of Public Safety stated that Zabar McKellar, his wife Krishaun McKellar, their 15-year-old son Kason McKellar, and Zabar’s father Billy McKellar all lost their lives in the incident.
The surviving family member, the family’s 20-year-old daughter Evan McKellar, is reported to be in critical condition and is receiving treatment in the intensive care unit at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Her recovery requires significant medical attention.
Investigators are examining the incident, which happened on a Saturday, and have indicated that a commercial truck driver, whose name is Alexis Osmani Gonzalez-Companioni, a 27-year-old, was reportedly asleep at the wheel. According to authorities, the truck was moving quickly before colliding with several cars, one of which belonged to the McKellar family.
The driver has been taken into custody and faces charges, including five counts of manslaughter and one count of aggravated assault involving a deadly weapon. Further legal actions may follow as the investigation continues.
The trucking company implicated, Hope Trans LLC based in Tacoma, Washington, appears to have a history of safety infractions. Reports indicate past instances where drivers exceeded their permitted driving hours. WFAA noted difficulties in reaching someone from the company for comment recently.
One individual who was in another vehicle involved in the collision has not yet been identified. Their fate remains unknown as authorities work to notify affected parties and piece together the full account of events.
A GoFundMe campaign has been established to assist with the substantial medical bills associated with Evan McKellar’s critical care. A message accompanying the fundraiser conveyed gratitude for the widespread support received from community members and the outpouring of concern expressed during this tragic period.
Officials confirmed plans to provide additional information regarding the crash investigation on Wednesday. The public is advised to stay tuned for further updates as this developing situation unfolds.
