Fatal car crash death of Laticha Bracero and Alyssa Cordova

A fatal car accident in St. Louis has taken the lives of a mother and her daughter. Laticha Bracero, 42, and her 21-year-old daughter Alyssa Cordova were killed in the incident that occurred on February 14th, 2024, following a concert.

The driver involved in the deadly collision, Monte Henderson, will not face a trial. According to the St. Louis Circuit Attorney’s Office, Henderson will enter an “open” plea in court next Tuesday. This means he will change his initial plea without any agreement on sentencing. He could plead guilty or accept a no contest plea. Following the plea, both his lawyer and the prosecution will present their arguments to a judge, who will then decide on his punishment. Henderson’s sentencing is currently scheduled for July 19th.

Henderson’s lawyer, Scott Rosenblum, declined to comment when asked for his side of the story.

Laticha Bracero and Alyssa Cordova had traveled from Chicago to attend a Drake concert at the Enterprise Center on February 14th. After the show, as they made their way back to their hotel, they were struck by a vehicle at the intersection of North 18th Street and Olive Street.

Police reports indicate that Henderson was operating his Jeep Cherokee at excessive speed, disobeying a traffic signal. At approximately 70 mph, he crossed into the intersection on a red light, side-swiping another car. His vehicle then lost control, spun out of direction, and collided with the two individuals in the street crossing before hitting yet another car.

Henderson was released on bond shortly after the accident and has since been under GPS surveillance. Driving is prohibited as a condition of his release.

The family of the deceased has initiated a wrongful death lawsuit against Henderson.
