Emergency services were called to the scene just before 1:30 p.m. on Antelope Valley Parkway, located close to the Bob Devaney Sports Center in Lincoln, Nebraska.

The preliminary findings from the accident inquiry indicate that the 18-year-old Karwan Breem was operating a red Cadillac vehicle heading north when he altered his lane and increased his speed. Law enforcement authorities reported that the car experienced hydroplaning on the damp roadway, struck the edge of the road, lost directional control, and subsequently slid into the opposing flow of traffic, resulting in a collision with a blue Nissan pickup truck being driven by a 19-year-old man from Oklahoma.

Both Karwan Breem and his 15-year-old sister, Karolin Breem, who were occupants of the Cadillac at the time of the incident, were airlifted to a medical institution. Regrettably, their injuries proved to be fatal, as confirmed by the crash report. The operator of the pickup truck suffered minor harm and was treated at the same location.

The deceased individuals were enrolled at North Star High School; Karwan Breem was anticipated to complete his academic obligations through summer coursework, while Karolin Breem had finished her required summer classes and was preparing for the start of her second year in the upcoming fall semester. School professionals, including counselors and psychological consultants, visited the educational institution on Tuesday to offer assistance to the student community.

A commemorative display was arranged in the school’s guidance department. Once the exhibit is no longer in use, the objects gathered will be forwarded to the family for their personal remembrance. In addition to this, the parents of Karwan and Karolin Breem have initiated a fundraising campaign on a platform called GoFundMe to alleviate the financial strain resulting from the tragic loss.
