Fatal Chicago shooting death of Aviance Drexler

A detailed account of the tragic River North event has been compiled. The incident unfolded on Wednesday night outside the Artis Restaurant and Lounge. Eighteen individuals were struck by gunfire in the 300-block of West Chicago Avenue shortly after 11 p.m.

The shooting resulted in four fatalities, including Aviance Drexler, a health care professional. Her uncle, Kelvin White, described the scene as devastating. “I just saw her last night before the party. She was all dressed up, smiling, happy, excited, and now here we are today, this morning. It’s devastating,” he shared.

Aviance was reportedly married and was supporting rapper Mello Buckzz at her mixtape release party when the shooting occurred. Her family members used the nickname “Avi” for her.

Family members gathered outside Northwestern Memorial Hospital on Thursday morning seeking information about their loved ones. Sharonda Booth, whose daughter Taylor Walker was killed, expressed her grief. “I’ve buried two children, not trying to lose my daughter. I just ask God: Please make sure my baby’s OK, please,” she stated.

Chicago Police Director of Community Policing Glen Brooks was present at the hospital to provide comfort. The other fatalities were two men in their 20s and a woman whose identity was not immediately released.

Multiple victims were transported to various hospitals. Aviance Drexler was taken to Stroger Hospital before succumbing to her injuries. Her sister was also injured in the shooting and is still receiving treatment.

According to police, the shooting began when a dark-colored vehicle drove past the location and fired shots into the crowd. The suspects drove away from the scene.

Investigators believe multiple shooters were involved, and no arrests have been made. The motive remains unknown. Ten people remain in stable condition, while others are recovering or still in critical condition. Three individuals were treated and released, with four others still hospitalized.
