The McHenry County Sheriff’s Office revealed that the incident transpired around 9:30 p.m. near the intersection intersection of Terra Cotta Road and Deering Oaks Lane. The crash occurred in an unincorporated area of Crystal Lake. Two individuals, both around the age of 15, were on bicycles heading south along Terra Cotta Road when a motorist struck one rider from the rear.
The fleeing motorist did not stop and continued driving away from the scene. Emergency services transported the injured biker to Northwestern Medicine Hospital McHenry, but the fatality was confirmed shortly after arrival. Law enforcement officials stated that the cyclist’s bicycle was equipped with a functioning red taillight system at the time of the collision.
