Wednesday night brought a tragic train-related fatality in Pierson, Florida, as authorities from the Volusia Sheriff’s Office confirmed the deaths of two brothers in the area.
Details from the office’s social media update indicate the incident unfolded at roughly 9:14 p.m. on W. Washington Avenue. The individuals involved were 32-year-old Oscar Cardenas, who was operating the vehicle, and his 20-year-old sibling Jehu Cardenas, acting as a passenger. Both were from Pierson and were traveling east in a four-door Chevrolet sedan leaving from County Road 3.
In their investigation report, officials stated that the driver made an attempt to cross the railroad tracks and circumvent the functioning arm bars, which had operational lights. Shortly after, a train proceeding in the northbound direction collided with the car. Both occupants were pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency responders.
