New Market, Alabama Man Xavier Turner Arrested in Madison County for Fatal Shooting

NEW MARKET, ALABAMA — Xavier Turner, a 31-year-old resident of New Market, was arrested in Madison County in connection with a fatal shooting that occurred early Sunday morning.

According to the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Turner was taken into custody on Sunday at a residence on Bent Creek Lane following reports of a shooting. Authorities say the incident took place at approximately 1:15 a.m. and involved 23-year-old Evan Mayomi of Birmingham, who was found at the scene with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Deputies and paramedics attempted life-saving measures, but Mayomi was pronounced dead at the scene.

Turner was transported to the Madison County Jail and is currently being held without bond on charges related to the homicide.
