Fatal Dover stabbing death of Tyler Hayward

A ferry en route from Dover encountered significant police scrutiny after a murder suspect was identified. According to Tuesday reports, the vessel departed Dover bound for Calais but was quickly diverted back to the Kent port. Law enforcement conducted extensive searches onboard.

The Metropolitan Police announced the arrest of a 22-year-old individual at the Port of Dover on suspicion of murdering Tyler Hayward. Hayward, a 26-year-old man, was discovered with a stab wound on Chingford Mount Road in Waltham Forest late Sunday. Medical assistance arrived, but the individual was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Tyler Hayward’s family released a statement expressing their profound grief. “We are struggling with the tragic loss of Tyler,” they said. “He was a beautiful soul with the kindest of heart. A much loved son, grandson and brother, that will be missed immensely,” they added.

Passengers endured a lengthy delay as the ferry remained confined to Dover for approximately ten hours, preventing its journey to Calais. A passenger, Debbie Watson, described the experience: “We boarded the ferry at 10am at Dover,” she stated. “Some eight-and-a-half hours later we are still sat on it with police stopping us from sailing or getting off.”

Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Woodsford, leading the Metropolitan Police investigation, commented on the operation. “Since Sunday, we have been making extensive enquiries,” she explained. “This resulted in searches being carried out at the Port of Dover.” Woodsford also expressed gratitude towards Kent Police and other agencies for their collaboration and acknowledged the public’s inconvenience during the operation.
