Brent Gunnels, 38, was employed as a chef at The W, a popular downtown Lee’s Summit cocktail lounge. According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol’s official accident report, Mr. Gunnels was operating his vehicle at approximately 2:00 a.m. in Freeman, Missouri. The crash report indicates he lost control and veered off the right side of the roadway, subsequently striking an embankment. The vehicle became airborne, impacted a rock bluff, overturned, and ultimately came to a stop. Mr. Gunnels was pronounced deceased at the scene by emergency responders.
