A young man identified as Paul Beasley, aged 24, was killed in a shooting incident involving the Kansas City, Kansas Police Department. His family revealed attempts to secure mental health treatment for him were unsuccessful shortly before the event.
Initial reports indicate that at 2:49 p.m., the suspect, later confirmed as Paul Beasley Jr., entered a retail establishment on State Avenue. He reportedly pointed a weapon at the employee and demanded the alarm be triggered.
Approximately one minute later, police arrived at the scene and were met with the suspect outside the premises. A shootout ensued, resulting in multiple officers discharging their weapons.
The family stated Paul’s mental health struggles began in July 2025. Despite numerous hospitalizations, his parents could not find suitable care. On August 8th, hospital officials refused admission for Paul, worsening the situation.
