Fatal Sumter County homicide deaths of Christine Marie McAbee and Kristen Grissom
The Sumter County Coroner’s Office announced the identities of two women discovered dead near a rural Rembert road on Friday. According to Coroner Robbie Baker, the bodies, identified as 35-year-old Christine Marie McAbee and 38-year-old Kristen Grissom, were found in a forested area close to Richbow Road at approximately 1 p.m. Both fatalities are being treated as homicides, with autopsies arranged for the upcoming Tuesday at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston.
The Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, which is also examining the incident, revealed that a local resident in the Rembert region stumbled upon the remains. Sheriff Anthony Dennis arrived at the location on the same day to assist with securing the crime scene and conducting evidence collection.
Neither law enforcement agency has disclosed any specifics regarding the motives or suspects involved in the killings, and Dennis emphasized the necessity of awaiting autopsy findings before drawing conclusions. In a statement released that day, he stressed, “Until the results are available, we must refrain from making assumptions.”
The sheriff’s office has appealed to the public for any information connected to the homicides, providing the contact number 803-436-2000 for tips.
